Meltwater Farm is the collaborative florescence of Marisa Barone and Ian Nichols. We grow 3 acres of cut greens and vegetables year-round for farmers markets and wholesale accounts. Our goal is to produce food that is accessible, abundant and highly nutritious, with a low environmental footprint. This will be our 7th season growing vegetables full-time and our 2nd season at Meltwater Farm, located on 59 acres of ancestral Mohawk/Abenaki land in the town of Argyle, NY. We will be certified organic by late summer, 2024.

Our vegetables are part of a diversified system that includes a perennial fruit tree and asparagus polyculture, raspberries, table grapes, and sheep. We rotationally graze a flock of wool on the open pastures, hedgerows and wild areas on the farm and sell a small amount of seasonal lamb in fall and winter. Throughout the season, we process the raw wool that is shorn in the spring and fall completely by hand on the farm, turning it into yarns and felt that we make into farm-raised wool goods.

The farm is named for the snow and ice that melts off of the Seussical slopes of the Adirondack foothills around our home in the spring.
